Symbolism
The Argent fret, elegantly interlaced upon the field, evokes a fretted form of the Cross of Saint Andrew, as borne upon the banner of Scotland. In this, it stands as a quiet but enduring testament to Alexander’s Scottish heritage, the interwoven strands symbolizing not only lineage but the strength of continuity - ancestry bound across generations, unbroken and resolute.
Upon the chief, the four Crosses of Saint James in Azure serve as a deliberate canting of the name FitzJames, a visual expression of identity rendered through sacred emblem. These crosses speak both to the bearer’s name and to a deeper spiritual allegiance, uniting personal heritage with devotion. Their placement in chief - position of honour - further elevates this connection, proclaiming faith as a guiding principle and a defining mark of the house.
Surmounting the helm, the crest of three arrows bound together reflects a proud and longstanding martial tradition within the family. The arrows, joined as one, signify unity of purpose and strength through cohesion, while their disciplined arrangement speaks to readiness and service. They stand as a symbol of generations committed to duty, embodying both the skill of the warrior and the loyalty of the servant - ever aligned with the ideals expressed in the motto, Pro Deo et Rege.
